Why are our recipes vegan?
All our recipes are meant to contribute to a healthy lifestyle, and we can assure you that there hasn’t been any compromise on taste. Eating well constitutes by no means a diet, it’s a way of life! Weight loss is not the objective here, although it can happen. Our recipes are meant to restore the pleasure of eating and the conviviality that’s lacking from many supposedly healthy diets.
Although we have nothing against the consumption of quality animal products, we chose to feature only vegan recipes to help you increase the plant-based part of your diet in a manner that’s easy and healthy. Many of these dishes could actually very well accompany meat or fish.
All our recipes are free from gluten, dairy and refined sugar. This makes it easier for people who have intolerances or are trying to avoid sugar. But if you tolerate gluten well for instance, you will find possible substitutions in some recipes.
We chose not to mention calorie count because one can’t be happy or heal while counting them. We wouldn’t want to be accomplices in pushing people into orthorexia.
We chose not to mention specific benefits of eating certain foods for several reasons. First, eating a type of food once won’t provide clearer skin or better digestion; improvements and benefits will only appear if you eat well most of the time - 80% for those who like numbers – over at least a few weeks. Second, as your organs can’t be considered separately, whatever is good for one is probably also good for the others. This is why you’ll find no health claims around specific recipes.
However, we can assure you that by adding more plant-based unprocessed foods to your diet, your health will undoubtedly improve. We’ve tried to use ingredients that are widely available; even if you don’t manage to find some of them, you should still be able to go ahead with most recipes. Always remember that the health benefits come from eating real, unprocessed foods and not from some fancy powders or very rare ingredients.
Finally, besides being good for your health, our recipes should please your palate and your eyes. But most importantly, they should reinforce your sense of belonging. Don’t just make them for yourself, share them! Share them with your friends, with your family, with your neighbors, your co-workers, your flat mates, younger people, older people, lonely people, poor people… Sharing your food is one of the greatest acts of love and one of the simplest sources of pleasure in life.
Now without further ado, let’s get cooking! Sahtein!
