Should you eat organic?

We’re all for increasing our consumption of organic foods. But the same rules apply for organic foods as for non-organic foods. You should try to eat local and seasonal whole foods, avoid nutrition labels and keep the « 5 or less ingredients » rule in mind.

A lot of foods that are labelled as « organic » are quite unhealthy and one should be careful about misleading claims. Also, do not mistake « natural » food for organic food. Always make sure the food is approved as organic by a competent authority.

Some tips on when to buy organic fruits and vegetables and when it’s not necessary

The following are best consumed organic as they are the most contaminated by pesticides: apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, hot peppers, nectarines, peaches, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, sweet bell peppers, kale, collard greens and snap peas.

The following can be consumed safely even if not organic as they are the least contaminated by pesticides: asparagus, avocados, cabbage, cantaloupe, sweet corn, eggplant, grapefruit, kiwi, mangos, cauliflower, onions, papayas, pineapples, sweet peas and sweet potatoes.
